We make the tools our work was missing.

7onic is a small design and development studio. We build what our own work is missing, use it every day, and only then hand it to people stuck in the same place.

What’s in the name.

Seven notes make a scale. We started with seven empty slots.

The first note, the one every melody comes home to, is called the tonic. 7 + tonic = 7onic.

Our tools have a home note too: the work we do every day. Each one starts there.

01The story

Made on the job.

  1. For years, design and code kept drifting apart. Every fix, twice.

  2. So we built a design system to hold them together.

  3. We started a blog to tell people about it.

  4. Then, posting the same piece to site after site, we hit another wall.

  5. The next slot will probably grow out of that.

02The family

Seven slots. One filled.

Each slot has a number and a color. We fill a slot when its tool is ready and leave it empty until then.

03Principles

Three checks before we build.

  1. We felt it

    We only take on problems we’ve felt ourselves, the kind that stall our work at least once a month.

  2. We use it first

    We use it ourselves, every day, before anyone else. Only then does it go out.

  3. We say it as it is

    Live means live. Empty means empty. We don’t dress it up.

When the next slot fills.

It will come out of our work, the way the first one did. You’ll hear about it on our blog before anywhere else.
